MMDA and NCR LGU traffic offices discuss regulation of e-bikes and e-scooters

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) met with local traffic bureaus in the National Capital Region (NCR) and discussed guidelines regarding regulations governing the use of e-vehicles.

Attorney Victor Nuñez, MMDA’s Traffic Discipline Office (TDO) chief for enforcement, said he will enforce Office of Ground Transportation Administrative Order 2021-039 to keep bicycle users safe. electric and electric scooters.

The LTO Administrative Order consolidated guidelines for the classification, registration and operation of all types of electric motor vehicles.

Although certain types of e-bikes and e-scooters are not required to be registered with the LTO, Nuñez said the same administrative order stipulated that they were limited to barangay roads and roads that would be designated by units. local governments.

“E-bike and e-scooter regulations are based on their category and specifications, such as maximum speed limit, weight and others,” Nunez said.

He also clarified that the e-bike and e-scooter regulations are not based on Republic Act 11697 which was designed to improve the e-vehicle industry to reduce reliance on fuels in a climate of skyrocketing prices of petroleum products.
