Planetarium, e-bikes and free comics today in Colorado Springs (May 7) | Jill from Colorado

(Colorado Springs, CO) It’s a busy weekend in Colorado Springs with lots of fun indoors and outdoors. You can catch a show at the planetarium, take a free e-bike ride, visit a historic site, entertain the family at a nature center, and soak up the stars. There are activities for all ages, and some are even free.

Reynolds Ranch Tour

In collaboration with Celebrate Coloradothe Western Museum of Mining and Industry will be offering a discounted tour of Reynolds Ranch on May 6-7. This newly renovated historic site which includes a farmhouse, hay barn, ore house and beautiful grounds has just opened for tours. Be one of the first visitors to Reynolds Ranch this weekend!

There are tours both days at 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. The cost is $3 per person (free for members) and tickets must be reserved in advance here.

Family Fun Day at Fountain Creek

Fountain Creek Nature Center will host a family fun day Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be many activities and learning stations along the Nature Center trails including a puppet show, dinosaur fossils, kite making, crafts, pond creatures and Moreover.

The stations will be occupied by local organizations such as Rocky Mountain Dinosaur & Resource Center, 4H Petting Zoo, Cool Science and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The cost is $5 per person (children under two are free) and this rate includes activities and a slice of pizza. This event is free for active duty military personnel and their family members. Reservations are recommended and can be made here.

Air Force Academy Planetarium

The United States Air Force Academy Planetarium will have a free open doors Saturday, May 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The renovated planetarium reopened in 2019, after fifteen years of closure, and offers full-dome shows with immersive sound.

In addition to the Saturday shows, there will be food trucks and photo ops.

Location: 2120 Cadet Drive, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs (use this menu instead of entering the address into a GPS. GPS directions will take you to the wrong place.)

Family Star Party

On Saturday May 7, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., join the Space Foundation Discovery Center for a Family Star Party. Members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society will be outside the center with telescopes to help guests view the crescent moon, Orion the hunter, and the Leo and Virgo galaxies. There are no charges for outdoor events.

If you wish to explore the center’s indoor activities and exhibits, there will be half price entry (adults $5 and children $3) that night. This museum is a fun educational and interactive facility for all ages.

Outdoor telescope viewing is weather dependent, so please call to confirm in case of inclement weather.
